Frequently-asked questions about CDWrite and the services which I offer.
1) What is CDWrite?
The company specialises in the distribution of information about motoring and motor sport, mainly by email. This service is currently used by over 100 clients, whose messages can be viewed by clicking on "News".
Here are some current statistics from my database. Note that many categories overlap, so selections may add up to more than the overall total.
Total people on database = 20,824
UK residents = 15,889
Non-UK residents = 4,935 in 71 countries
Media = 4,746
Motor sport businesses = 13,427
Known individual competitors = 7,816
Motor clubs & promoters = 2,532
Motorcycle contacts = 811
Kart contacts = 439
Education contacts = 232
Every aspect of motor sport is covered: cars, karts, trucks, motorcycles, stock cars and bangers, etc.
2) What does it cost?
The email service is charged at £150 for each plain-text email message distributed to any or all of my lists. Payment is usually due within 28 days of my invoice to you.
3) Is this SPAM?
No. I do not use a bulk email system, likely to trigger spam filters. Each person receives an individually-addressed message. Each email also carries clear instructions on how to unsubscribe. A record of all opt-outs is kept, to prevent them being accidentally added at a later date.
4) Can I include an attachment?
Attachments are strongly discouraged. They take time to send and are therefore charged at an additional £2 per Kb (for example, an 80K attachment adds £160 to your costs).
NOTE: some media (including the Press Association, Associated Press, ITV and Reuters) will not accept any email with an attachment - such messages are deleted entirely, so that even the covering note is never seen.
If you insist on sending an attachment, PDF files are recommended, as these are almost impossible to infect with any known virus and are therefore more acceptable
to most recipients. I can convert other formats (Word, Quark XPress, etc) into PDF files for a small charge.
5) What else does CDWrite do?
Media accreditation and press office management for events; distribution of a monthly motor sport diary to all 20,824 email addresses; and this website listing forthcoming motor sport events, which attracts 200,000 visitors each month.
CDWrite offers a full range of media/PR services, including copy writing, sub-editing, layout/design, on-event media accreditation, press office management, websites and advertisements.
6) Who is Colin Wilson?
Colin Wilson is a professional journalist who has worked for newspapers (weekly and daily); monthly magazines (Cars & Car Conversions, Rally Sport, Motor Racing); in book publishing; and as a press officer (FIA World Rally Championship, FIA Touring Car World Cup, Motor Sports Association, Lombard RAC Rally, British Grand Prix, etc).
